About Hope College

Hope College is a four-year liberal arts college where academic excellence and vibrant Christian faith join together in a supportive and welcoming community.

Hope’s campus is nestled in the heart of downtown Holland, Michigan, just miles from Lake Michigan. We’ve been part of this community for more than 150 years, growing from the 10 students who enrolled in 1862 to more than 3,300 students on campus today.

Your support helps sustain Hope’s mission of educating students for lives of leadership and service in a global society. Read more about our mission and giving to Hope.

Hope College FAQ

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is the process of raising money for a project through many donors using an online platform. Hope launched this platform in 2016 to connect donors to students and faculty in ways that empower philanthropy to make a direct and meaningful difference. Here, your small (or large) gift can make a tremendous impact and everyone can help a project succeed by harnessing the power of their own networks and hitting "SHARE". It's new, it's different and we can't wait to see where Hope students, faculty and donors take it.

How does Hope choose which projects to crowdfund for?

In 2015-16 Hope had a successful pilot using a new crowdfunding platform as part of our fundraising efforts. We are expanding the use of this platform in 2016-17 and have created a crowdfunding committee to establish criteria and select projects.

This group has set the following criteria to select projects:

-Support strategic plan initiatives
-Critical mass of potential supporters with an existing affinity for the program
-Potential for a visual and compelling narrative
-Clear commitment from faculty and students to provide content
-One-time fundraising project with the potential to transfer engagement to other initiatives
-Clear budget and plan for a funding gap or surplus
-Preference given to projects that have a budget relieving impact, have the opportunity to leverage additional resources and/or support a greater number of students

90% of funds raised on crowdfunding are applied to the specific project. In addition, 10% of each gift is used to provide access to a college education for all Hope College students.

How do I apply to be a crowdfunding project?

The projects for 2017-18 have all been selected. If you have an idea for a project in the future please contact Scott Travis at 616.395.7250.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Yes. Contributions to crowdfunding projects support specific areas of Hope College and are tax-deductible as allowed by law. You will receive a receipt for your donation. If you select a contribution level that has a thank you gift, the fair market value of the gift will be deducted from the total amount of the contribution.

When will my credit card be charged?

Your credit card will be charged immediately upon completing the form.

Can I support a project without giving online?

Yes. Please contact development@hope.edu or 616.395.7775 if you are interested in talking with a Hope staff member about making a gift to a specific project.
